Therapeutic Massage: The Many Benefits For Connective Tissue

In this month’s newsletter we are going to explore a very important topic, and that is connective tissue.  Cartilage, tendon, and bone are all connective tissue.  They give your body structure and form.  This is the “frame” of your body, and it is essential for healthy function at all levels.  Injuries often involve connective tissue.

Massage therapists can treat the fascia, a thin layer of connective tissue that surrounds every organ in your body, as well as bones and blood vessels.  The fascia provides a scaffolding of support for your organs and your skeletal system, and gentle massage with skilled hands is a wonderful way to release tension, oxygenate, and increase blood flow and nutrients to this crucial part of the body.

Massage therapy and connective tissue massage have another benefit that is not often spoken of: they can help you discover and resolve issues before they become serious.  Your therapist will gently palpate any sensitive areas, and your response can be highly useful in discovering pathology on a wide range of issues.  Medical professionals can use this information to facilitate diagnosis.

Most of all, massage therapy releases tension on the fascia and connective tissue, thus facilitating blood flow and restoring nutrients.  This, as many satisfied clients will tell you, can greatly reduce pain and leave you feeling wonderful!

Happy new year, and thank you for tuning in this month.
