Peace. We know it when we feel it, after a nourishing spa session, or a warm bath with rose petals and candlelight. These moments give us pause, quite literally, to reflect on the difference between that relaxed, contented state and the often frenetic and stressed state of consciousness many of us experience throughout the day. That contrast, those precious minutes of peace, can really wake us up to how stressed we are in daily life. Life should always be this way, we think to ourselves.
Peace is increasingly recognized as a fundamental human right, as well it should be, since all other human rights take a backseat if you are under attack or threat of violence. All bets are off unless you have a reasonably fair expectation of being unharmed in your pursuits. In 2016, in a milestone for this all-important human liberty, the UN General Assembly embraced the Declaration On The Right To Peace. This was not a new initiative; efforts had been underway since 1971 to recognize this fundamental human right. Finally, it happened. A longtime Indian proverb states Non-violence is the supreme law of life.
In daily life, many of us feel under siege by economic pressures, family obligations, deadlines. These pressures create stress. Hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, so useful to us in our evolution, are quite taxing to the body when prolonged. Modalities like healing touch, therapeutic massage, afternoons at the spa can be enormously helpful for people in leveling out those rough patches. It is important for each of us to discover activities that bring peace to our lives, help us get into the flow of life, with a sense of well-being while we work.
Thank you for tuning in this month, and we do hope you will follow us on social media for daily insights on health and well-being!
