The Benefits Of Radiant Health

 

Radiant health is the tree that bears many beautiful fruit.  A few of these are, a joyful experience in life, more emotional availability to the ones you love, faster and more creative problem solving, decreased anxiety, less cost associated with medical issues, and more time and energy to do the things you enjoy.  As you age, excellent health means less pain, less reliance on medications, and much greater potential for success in your career because you are motivated, optimistic and energized. Essentially, a longer, more energetic and fulfilling life.   

If radiant health is the tree that gifts us with energy and well-being in life, let’s take a look at what makes that tree grow.   The first is exercise.  Exercise is about doing your part so that the surge of energy, healing and good vibes can flow.  With an hour a day of exercise, you experience better and deeper sleep, more radiant skin, weight loss, a boost in self-esteem, improved mental clarity and problem solving, and a boost in energy.  The best kind of exercise is outdoors: a brisk walk is all it takes, but if you combine that with some body weight training or light weight lifting, you’ll feel even stronger.  Most people see an improvement in physiology and body posture as well, when they commit to daily exercise.   

To replenish our bodies, we take in spring water, and delicious food. Many of us proceed with a mistaken notion that food must be greasy, fattening and processed to taste good, while health food, though it allows us to live longer and look better, is bland and unsatisfying.  That is not true. A healthy diet is more delicious that a junk food diet, and more satisfying; it just takes a little effort and knowledge.  It also helps to be honest: what do you love the most?  If you can’t stand broccoli, it’s unlikely you’ll devise any kind of steaming scheme, or stir fry solution that leaves you feeling excited to eat it.  It’s perfectly alright to leave the broccoli for someone else, and focus on tender shoots of asparagus, sautéed arugula with olive oil, or any other delicious healthy foods that taste good to your tongue, as well as feeding every cell in your body with much needed nutrients.  

The other thing about healthy eating and cooking is, it’s okay to start simple.  For example, What could I stir fry tonight with my chicken or fish that would be at least agreeable enough to me, and that with some seasoning and some trial and error, I might really enjoy?   

Another way to sustain radiant health is to take time to relax and recreate, time for joy and levity.  Meditation works for some; others reach that state of at-one-ment, that non-resistance groove with life through physical action like drumming, dancing, or hitting a racquetball against the wall.  It can be anything where you move your body and get your heart rate pumping.  The only criteria is that after you’re done, you feel satisfied, happy, in the flow of life, and ready to meet whatever comes next.  Massage and various kinds of body work can be immensely helpful too.  When it comes to health and well- being, it’s good to get some experts on the job now and then, give up the reins, and let them work their magic.
